George and Minnie were married in 10/19/1904 in Iowa. I believe that they did not marry in Missouri because they were first cousins and it was either illegal at the time or frowned upon. However, George and his brother John had moved to St. Clair county to farm after they left their shares of the J. W. Mason Furniture Company. By 1917, they had moved to Kansas City, apparently having failed at farming. George worked for the Maxwell Motor Sales Company at 6400 St. John and then the Zahner Manufacturing Company.

Meta Martha Dawson
b. 8/13/1908 m. Buris Eberhart abt. 1940 d. 7/1994. They owned a jewelry store in Willow Springs, Mo. In the 1980's, they lived in Orange County, CA. When I went to visit them as a child, they had a few baby owls that they were rehabilitating. Meta told me that they were often nursing birds back to health as they had several hit the windshield of their RV. As you can see from the pictures, I do not think she was telling me a tale.
Meta had quit school after her mother's death in 1920 for a few years. She returned to Westport High School, completed and went to work after high school to help support the household and help raise her little sister, Louise. She met Burris at Westport where he courted her for several years and married in secret while still living with their families. |
