Joe and Louise (as she preferred to be called) started out in marriages to other people but found each other and married 10/6/1946. They started their family in Chicago but eventually settled back in Kansas City at 4812 E. 12th Street close to the historic Elmwood Cemetery. Joe worked for Puritan Bennett and traveled quite a bit for work. By 1958, with three boys, they had outgrown the house and moved to the house that is still in the family today.
Joe retired from Puritan Bennett and Louise kept herself busy with the boys, teaching piano to children in the neighborhood and completing her associates degree in music. As a couple, they shared a love of the outdoors (especially canoeing), music and eventually international folk music and dancing.
